The Passionate Millennial: Mississippi’s Most Prized Possession

Madeline Burdine, Madeline Burdine writer, Madeline Burdine Mississippi Millennial, Mississippi Millennial, Passionate Millennial,

Face it. You cannot hear the word “millennial” without negative thoughts coming to mind. The word alone holds a world of its own, and it is a world that non millennials assume they want no part of. However, our world, the world of the millennial, is one that should be explored, and it is quite possible that it will be ever so enjoyed by all who enter.

A Mississippi millennial is quite the masterpiece. Having mastered the bad reputation thing, we know a little bit about opposition. Because opposition is around every corner, is it not? We see the heartbreaking local, national, and world events on our media feeds everyday too. We also feel the gut-wrenching fears of humanity’s current state, appearing to be in a downward spiral. I want to point out that we are standing in the midst of the mess, just like everyone else, and I would be willing to bet that we actually feel these fears much more ferociously than any other generation we share life on Earth with. Because this is our time to prove ourselves, you know? This is our time in the span of history to become someone and to make a difference in a downward spiraling society. This is it. This is our time. Meanwhile, we are being begged to turn things around while also being dubbed as destructive to society.

Coming from a millennial, I’ll shout it from the rooftops of Jackson. We want to make a difference! A positive difference. Because if you haven’t noticed, we are a positive people. No, our way of doing things isn’t killing society. In fact, if you ask me, I think the misunderstood millennial could very well be Mississippi’s most prized possession. Here are five reasons why.

It is purpose that drives passion, and it is passion that turns that prior purpose into progress (possible tweet). This is who we are. Yes, we are millennials. But we are passionate millennials. The passionate millennials that push positivity, progress, and most of all, pour out our love. Love for people. Love for our desires. Love for our society. Love for our nation. Love for our world. We know the world needs that. So we are that. This passion that we pour out should be prized, because it is love that will stand the test of time. This is our time, and we take pride in the opportunity to take the reigns and drive.
