Steve Wilson is the investigative editor at Mississippi Matters. He appears weekly on Wednesday mornings on WMXI 98.1 FM's "Pine Belt Daybreak" program in Hattiesburg with Michael Pol and Ted Tibbett to talk about his work and Mississippi politics.
On Wednesday, Wilson discussed the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Murphy vs. National Collegiate Athletic Association, that will allow individual states to authorize betting on sports.
Mississippi passed a law in 2017 that not only put the recommendations of a daily fantasy sports commission into law, but also removed language from state code that disallows betting on sports.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission has already written some regulations to govern the practice and could approve them as soon as its June 21 meeting.
