The heat and humidity of the south doesn’t keep us from loving a great cup of coffee and the aroma of our favorite coffee shops. Coffee adds an element of creativity, caffeine creates an environment for great conversations and coffee shops are the perfect space for rejuvenation and relaxation. We've found eight trendy coffee hotspots in the south with delightful caffeine creations and foamy masterpieces to delight even the most astute coffee aficionado.

Condesa Cafe & Espresso Bar (Atlanta, Georgia)

With two thriving locations, Condesa Cafe & Espresso Bar specializes in the details of a perfect shot of espresso from Baroida, Papua New Guinea, and an Ethiopian pour-over. Their industrial chic atmosphere spurs creative souls to thrive in an aromatic think tank of sorts over a cup of remarkable java in a creative atmosphere. They also serve craft beers from local breweries, hand-selected wine and well-made cocktails.

 

Houndstooth Coffee (Austin, Texas)

What started as an affinity for coffee and coffee shop culture has grown into a love for sharing quality beverages at Houndstooth Coffee in the Austin and Dallas, Texas communities. Why the name, Houndstooth? Scottish legend holds that Houndstooth was one of the first simple plaids. These plaids came to serve as regional identities for the people of Scotland. All were all Scotsman, but each took pride in their specific plaid.

Today coffee shops have become like regional identities for people. As a locally owned and operated business, Houndstooth Coffee seeks to be an integral pattern in the fabric of the Texas coffee community. Their baristas are trained by nationally recognized industry professionals and constantly staying abreast of current coffee trends or developments.

 

Barista Parlor (Nashville, Tennessee)

Barista Parlor was established in 2011 in a former car repair shop and its unique and unforgettable atmosphere is a pit stop in the music city for coffee lovers. Barista Parlor roasts with an emphasis on sweetness and brewing with a focus on framing both of these qualities in a beautiful cup, in a physical space where commerce and art intersect.

 

Onyx Coffee Lab (Springdale, Arkansas)

Onyx Coffee Lab's menu rounds out café offerings and they serve in manual brew methods as well as a selection of fun, culinary inspired drinks. They have a refreshing iced drink made with a traditional espresso, vanilla, acid phosphate, orange extract, cream, and soda water.

Their seasonal menu, like the decadent harvest latte pictured below, is a delicious blend of flavors from butternut & acorn squash, pumpkin and sweet potato with a dash of spice. All drinks are designed to entice regulars out of their normal drink patterns to try something that is visually stunning and also tastes great.

 

Cups Espresso Cafe (Jackson, Mississippi)

Once upon a time there were two people, Janice and Dennis Cameron, who were married and passionate about great coffee, art, and music. They also loved to spend time in comfortable local places where they could dream and discuss everyday life problems. Cups, an espresso cafe, was born on July 31, 1993. Cups thrives in the vibrantly creative hub, the Fondren community, where thinkers and doers convene over a cup of barista made coffee.

Cups Espresso Cafe displays local artists at no commission and are passionate about giving back to local charities and community events.

Woodlawn Cycle Cafe (Birmingham, Alabama)

The relaxed atmosphere of Woodlawn Cycle Shop is perfect for coffee lovers, cycling enthusiasts and creative individuals to enjoy a cup of their favorite brew. Peruse through their selection of vinyls to find the perfect tune to sip on a delicious cup of java.

 

MoJo Coffee House (New Orleans, Louisiana)

Mojo Coffee House began with its flagship neighborhood shop on Magazine Street in 2006, and expanded to include a second location on Freret Street in 2012. One of the first coffee shops in New Orleans to introduce hand crafted pour over methods, Mojo Coffee House is known for being a community meeting spot and offering a cup of coffee to suit anyone’s needs. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends, do a little reading, or just soak in the atmosphere.

 

Bankhouse Coffee (Long Beach, Mississippi)

Bankhouse Coffee is a neighborhood coffee shop in downtown Long Beach that features on-site roasted coffee. Nestled in a nostalgic setting, Bankhouse Coffee is inside an old Hancock Bank that features retro old school library-inspired tables where patrons can enjoy a rejuvenating cup of coffee.
